The Pheonix Syndrome project is more than the metal and fire sculpture we’re creating for Burning Man 2022.
The sculpture is, for lack of a better phrase, an excuse. Because what really motivates us, what really gets our gears going and excitement building, are daydreams of bringing a thing together with our friends. Images of laughing faces under the hot desert sun and the recounting of stories with laughter over drinks at a quiet little bar in the back streets of Black Rock City. We love the thought that years from now, friends will look back on 2022 and remember that they met their friends or a new love on the phoenix build or at one of our many community activation happenings.
The Phoenix shall stand triumphant at Burning Man 2022 and our intention is to build a strong community movement around her, so that when she spreads her wings on playa, she’ll be doing so with the energy and embedded power of a cheering crowd of creators, artists and participants, all of whom have felt her touch and inspiration to they, themselves, experience their own rebirths. Artists the world over have created awe inspiring sculptures to be seen at Burning Man. Our desire is to facilitate the formulation of a movement of vibration and energy which we can embed into the physical sculpture of the phenix. Pheonix Syndrome is not just a physical monument of the artist's ego. She is alchemy.

Check out some of Lead Artist Dylan Eccleston's sketches. Dylan and our lead designer are currently working out the digital architectural mapping. The intention is to spend a significant portion of this process working out every details in the design process so that the physical execution of the build period will be smooth flowing and seamless.
Below is an earlier design Dylan made by hand with cardboard and reflective spray paint. You can't see it but under her outer shell, Dylan actually worked out where the joints would connect. She's a fully functional prototype.
